Bogdan Catanu practises in general civil and commercial litigation. Recent experience includes corporate litigation involving plans of arrangement and the rights of various stakeholders, shareholder oppression remedies, contractual disputes, professional malpractice and civil liability. Bogdan has also been involved in arbitration, real-estate litigation, and general civil liability claims and injunctions.
Notably, Bogdan has been involved in some of the firm’s recent significant litigation matters. He was a major contributor in the context of the litigation surrounding the proposed $52 billion privatization of BCE Inc., in which the firm represented the buy-out consortium, which progressed in real-time through the trial, appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada phases, in less than one year. He is now playing an active role in the related litigation in which BCE is claiming from the members of the buy-out consortium a $1.2 billion Break-Up Fee. In addition, Bogdan was a major contributor to the litigation surrounding the restructuring of the $32 billion Canadian Asset-Backed Commercial Paper market, in which the firm took the lead role in opposing the plan of arrangement on behalf of various noteholders holding in excess of $1 billion in distressed notes, including Air Transat, Pharmacies Jean-Coutu, Aéroports de Montréal, and Société Générale de Financement.
At the same time, Bogdan has been responsible for various other matters in fields of professional civil liability, contractual disputes and shareholder disputes.`
Prior to joining Woods LLP, Bogdan worked in a national firm and was involved in general transactional matters, including real-estate, secured financing and general M&A transactions, as well as in general commercial litigation, including insolvency and restructuring, administrative litigation, real-estate and contractual disputes.
