Alexandre Furino is developing a diversified practice, revolving around civil and commercial litigation, as well as arbitration. He has participated, amongst others, in large-scale professional and D&O liability cases, contractual disputes, competition and construction litigation matters. Alexandre advises and represents our clients in complex and sensitive business matters, as well as in injunction cases, both as plaintiff and defendant. As a litigator, he has defended their interests before all levels of Québec courts and before several arbitration and administrative tribunals.
Alexandre has acquired a specific expertise in disputes related to construction and real estate law. He has acted and currently acts in various complex litigation matters in the field of divided co-ownership (condominiums), where he represents the Syndicate of co-ownership or co-owners or other actors.
Alexandre has a particular interest for the field of professional ethics, more specifically conflicts of interests, as well as civil and commercial mediation. He is an accredited mediator by the Quebec Bar, in civil, commercial and employment matters. He is also accredited by the Quebec Bar as a mediator in the Small Claims division of the Court of Québec.
Regardless of the dispute, Alexandre systematically appies a practical approach that focuses on results and effective dispute resolution.
Member of the team formed by the firm for the representation of Chrysler Canada Inc. in the major professional liability suit against Coopers & Lybrand, in the context of the Castor Holdings saga.
Member of the team formed by the firm for the representation of an important consortium for public and private construction projects in Quebec, namely in the context of arbitration.
Has acted and currently acts for directors and officers (or ex-directors and ex-officers) in large strategic files involving their civil liability.
Acted for Vidéotron s.e.n.c., successfully defending a Motion for a provisional interlocutory injunction presented by Bell Canada in order to force Vidéotron to cease the diffusion of publicities that were namely aired during the 2015 National Hockey League playoffs.
Acted in the matters Construction G.M.R. inc. v Michon, 2017 QCCS 5081 and Michon v. Dallaire, 2019 QCCA 554, successfully obtaining the dismissal, in first instance and on appeal, of an action in warranty launched against our firm’s clients, Développement Rescom and its administrator, real estate developers, and of the principal action.
Has acted and currently acts for syndicates of co-ownership, co-owners, and other actors in multiple large construction disputes involving the developer and various professionals and sub-trades, as well as in strategic matters related to litigation and/or the management of the property and the syndicate. For example, he acted for the Syndicate Plaintiff in Syndicat des copropriétaires de Vue phase I et II c. Développement Vue phase I inc., 2020 QCCS 2148, successfully obtaining a precedent-setting award for damages of approximately 3 000 000$, to resolve defects affecting the building, and compensate other damages for the Syndicate and for 126 co-owners personally, plus legal fees, legal interest and additional indemnity.
Acted for McCarthy Tétrault, successfully defending a Motion in disqualification brought forth in a litigation matter where McCarthy Tétrault represented Hydro-Québec.
Obtained the Licence in Civil Law (LL.L.) of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section with honors: Magna cum laude
