Laurence is a versatile lawyer who develops a broad commercial litigation and international arbitration practice.

Over the last years, she has appeared before all levels of Quebec courts. She has also taken part in commercial and investment arbitrations under the auspices of the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and ICSID rules and applying different laws, from both the civil and common law traditions. The cases she has worked on span across a diversity of sectors and fields of law, including cases related to financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, renewable energies, defamation and professional liability.

Prior to joining Woods, Laurence served as a law clerk for Justice Marie Deschamps at the Supreme Court of Canada. She next trained and practised in the Montreal litigation department of a national firm and later worked at a leading international arbitration boutique in Paris.

A member of the Quebec, Ontario and Paris bars, she holds a civil law degree from the Université de Montréal and a Juris Doctor from the Osgoode Hall Law School. She also received a degree in international relations and international law from the Université du Québec à Montréal.


Filing of an application for authorization to institute a class action against some Jehovah’s Witnesses entities with respect to, amongst other, the handling of sexual abuse of minors.

Acting for Rothmans, Benson & Hedges Inc., the Canadian affiliate of Philip Morris International, in defense of a $60 billion claim by the Government of Quebec for the recovery of tobacco-related healthcare costs.

Successfully defended a financial institution in proceedings pertaining to a banking fraud.

Successfully defended the Canadian affiliate of an international renewable energy company regarding an alleged breach of confidentiality and obtained a condemnation for abuse of process.

Defending professionals in civil, disciplinary and other administrative proceedings.

Acting as an assistant to the Tribunal in United Utilities (Tallinn) B.V. et al. v. Republic of Estonia (ICSID Case No. ARB/14/24).

Represented a European telecommunications company against an Iranian Internet provider in an ICC arbitration regarding the performance of an equipment sale contract.

Represented a South European engineering company against an American automated controlled systems manufacturer regarding the failure of such system in a cogenerating energy plant.

Represented Turkish investors against the state of Turkmenistan regarding multiple breaches of the Turkish-Turkmen bilateral investment treaty in relation to 31 construction contracts.
