Sarah Woods is a seasoned litigator who has appeared before all levels of Quebec courts and before the Federal Court. Her diverse practice includes all aspects of commercial litigation, including shareholder disputes, securities litigation, and class actions. She also practices in the fields of manufacturer's liability, professional liability, employment law, and defamation.
Represented a multinational corporation in the context of a securities class action.
Successfully contested an application for disqualification against expert accountants.
Filed an application for authorization to institute a class action against the Jehovah’s Witnesses alleging in particular sexual abuse of minors.
Obtained a favorable judgment before the Court of Appeal by invoking an exception to dismiss based on the State Immunity Act, resulting in the action in damages being dismissed.
Successfully represented a provincial government intervening in a lawsuit against Air Canada in relation to the application of a section of the Air Canada Public Participation Act.
Was involved in the approval of the arrangement in relation to the transaction between BCE and a conglomerate of purchasers.
Instituted on behalf of oppressed shareholders several oppression remedies in accordance with the Canada Business Corporations Act.
Defends the interests of the group members in a class action against the Attorney General of Canada and the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in relation to the “mad cow crisis."
Defends professionals in relation to disciplinary and civil proceedings questions.
Represents plaintiffs having been subjected to defamatory remarks.
Negotiated several settlements on behalf of corporate executives following termination of their employment.
